Day 17: What was the first thing you knew about your story’s world/setting?

I am not sure, as it has evolved organically over time, and I am not sure I remember which elements came first or second, or even if the first ideas have survived or have become extinct.

Very early on I knew that the world would treat magic as a rare but real commodity, so that its effects on the world would be dramatic, but infrequent, allowing the world to resonate as a “real” place while keeping the dramatic amazement of magic when it does happen.

I also knew that there would be a division between a church that had a tangible god that led them, and that the church would be (unexpectedly, in my world-view) much more progressive than the more traditional feudal societies that surround it.
